Congratulations to the Jamaican female football team dubbed the “reggae girls”, on creating history by becoming the first Caribbean team to qualify for the World Cup! The ladies regrouped from a disappointing loss to the United States days earlier to defeat a spirited Panamanian team on Wednesday thus securing their place in the Women’s World Cup!
Jamaica took the lead over the Panamanians twice in the game (Shaw 14min & Brown 95min), only for the Central Americans to equalize. The game then went to penalty kicks locked 2-2 after 120 minutes (regular plus extra time) where Dominique Bond-Flasza scored the winning kick to send the 'Reggae Girlz' to next year's World Cup in France.
This is a monumental accomplishment for a country that only 9 years ago folded the female soccer program all together because of lack of funding and support. If it wasn’t for a Cedella Marley lead initiative, we probably would not be here celebrating this today.
Congratulations Ladies! We’re extremely proud of you and your accomplishments and the entire Caribbean will be cheering for you to create way more history in France next year. You all are living examples of what we mean when we say “I Love Being Caribbean”!
